How a Chip Gets Made
The same process, for over a century.
Slow, deliberate and expensive to do right. A CPC set wears in over decades of play and gets handed down to the next table.
Step one
Blend the clay
Real clay compound, the same basic formula since the 1940s, mixed from scratch to the 38 colors on our chart and weighted with fine brass powder, never lead.
Step two
Press on vintage molds
Compression-molded under 150-ton presses at over 250°F, twenty chips to a pressing, your chosen mold pattern cast into the rim. Heat and pressure are what give real clay its crisp detail.
Step three
Inlay by hand
Printed full-color inlays, protected by clear vinyl and molded directly into the chip body. Design yours in the Design Tool.
Step four
Inspect by hand
Every chip is checked before it ships: the feel, the sound and the weight all have to be right.
We make poker chips from the raw materials to the finished product. There is no automation to walk away from. Every machine on the floor is run by a person, the way it has been since the 1920s.

Our Story
From billiard balls to the best clay chips in the business.
1895
Alonzo Burt Sr. founds the Portland Billiard Ball Company in Portland, Maine.
1912
The company begins pressing poker chips, the start of a craft carried on ever since.
1954
As the Burt Company, introduces the first multi-colored edge spots and the first casino house mold.
2014
Two chip enthusiasts relaunch the works as Classic Poker Chips, near the original Maine location.
2026
A new chapter under owner Mike Amirault: the factory moves to Woodinville, Washington, with the same presses, molds and clay.
